The Motobilt Drop Down Tailgate for Jeep JK and JKU replaces the factory swing-out tailgate and spare tire carrier with a clean aluminum drop-down design that improves both function and visibility.

By removing the spare tire and carrier, the rear of the Jeep becomes lighter and easier to see out of while also improving departure angle on steep obstacles. Without the large spare hanging off the back of the vehicle, there is less chance of dragging the tire when climbing ledges or dropping off rocks.

The drop-down design provides easy access to the cargo area and creates a stable platform that can be used as a work surface, gear table, or seat around camp. The tailgate is built from lightweight aluminum and rated to support up to 300 pounds, making it strong enough for tools, camping gear, and everyday trail use. 

The design also incorporates locking latches for security, along with a recessed license plate mount and light for a clean finished appearance. Included hinge covers and factory hinge delete plugs help complete the installation so the rear of the Jeep maintains a finished look once the factory spare carrier is removed. 

This tailgate brings back the functionality of classic Jeep drop-down tailgates while integrating modern construction and features suited for today’s trail builds.

  • Installation of this product involves modifications to your vehicle, including cutting into the body, trimming seals, and adjusting interior panels. After these modifications, it's important to touch up any exposed metal with suitable paint to prevent rust and ensure a seamless look. NON Motobilt roll cage brackets may cause interference on upper cable mount.
